Silver Dollar City Debuts The Giant Swing

Do you have what it takes to tackle The Giant Swing? Silver Dollar City’s newest “thrill ride” launches you more than seven stories in the air (and nearly upside down) at roller-coaster speeds, nearly 45 miles per hour.

The Giant Swing’s two huge arms hold back-to-back seat rows, so you can soar backwards as well as forwards. Environmentally-friendly compressed air power launches the swings, sending you 75 feet high in opposite directions and through the barn roof before powering you back towards the ground and past other riders at speeds up to 45 miles per hour. The swings then soar 75 feet up into the air, high above the trees on the other side, arcing almost 230 degrees so you are nearly upside down. The incredible, tremendous acceleration produces back-to-back G-force kicks and sensations of weightlessness for a full-throttle, high-flying thrill ride.

The 1880s-style park, visited by two million people annually, excels in merging high-tech rides into highly themed settings. The Giant Swing, set in a massive hay barn, takes the old-fashioned fun of a barn swing and gives it giant-sized, high-tech thrill power. This $6 million ride bursts riders through the barn and launches them more than seven stories in the air — and nearly upside down — at roller-coaster speeds.

“You can put a ride anywhere, but the real key is giving it its own personality, which brings about an emotional connection,” said Silver Dollar City General Manager Brad Thomas. “Many generations grew up with the traditional barn swing. With this ride, we add that experience as we bring the colorful history of the Ozark Mountain region to life.”
